Taste of the Islands – Kaua’i

Where you eat breakfast to start a Perfect Day, take a break for lunch or pick up food for a picnic, and end the day with pupus, drinks and dinner is at least as important as any other travel decisions every day on Kaua’i.

Most guides to Hawai’i (or any other destination) include restaurants that are not recommended for one reason or another or serve a few decent dishes but otherwise don’t deserve high marks for cooking, cuisine and service. Perfect Days only includes restaurants and other eating places (including roadside stands) that we recommend and where we eat during our own Perfect Days in Kaua’i.

Perfect Days is very selective about where you should eat local food (eaten mainly by locals), vegetarian dishes and hamburgers, Mexican, Thai and Chinese dishes, Pacific Rim meals (creative combinations of Hawaiian, contemporary American and Asian cuisines), experience a festive Lu’au and, of course, local seafood and fish.

Perfect Days suggests places to eat that are conveniently located in or near your North, East, South or West Kaua’i lodgings, en route to activities, and places to purchase take-out picnic meals near your sightseeing, hiking, snorkeling, beachcombing, and other destinations. As you have learned by now, we are very partial to picnics eaten at beautiful, scenic, and peaceful locations.

Our goal is to make your search for enjoyable meals as simple as possible, with the least amount of extra driving, and the experience of eating any meal a memorable part of each Perfect Day.

Kaua’i has so many excellent places to eat any meal or pick up picnic lunches that even on extended vacations you don’t have to eat at the same place twice, except perhaps for the most difficult meal choice of the day, breakfast. Many of you who opt for booking vacation rentals will be able to solve that problem by eating breakfast at “home” some mornings.

All of the Taste of the Islands – Kaua’i restaurant reviews (and also those for Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii) can be found at www.driveguidemagazines.com/taste.
